About Jackson
I teach guitar with one simple mission: to help each student build a creative relationship with music that lasts. Technique matters. Theory matters. But what matters most is that students walk away from each lesson more empowered, curious, and expressive than when they walked in. My method combines foundational guitar technique with ongoing creative exploration. Whether you’re learning acoustic or electric, we start with clear, tactile goals—chord shapes, rhythm skills, picking accuracy, and tone awareness—but we move quickly into musical applications. You’ll learn how to use dynamics, articulation, and phrasing to bring songs to life, and we’ll constantly tie back technique to the music that inspires you. I use student-selected songs as springboards to introduce deeper concepts: how chords relate to scales, how to solo melodically over a progression, how to layer textures with effects. We also do “challenge assignments” like creating a melody in an unfamiliar key or scoring a short scene with just guitar and a looper. I’ve had students who began with a single favorite artist end up developing full original sets they performed live. A core belief of mine is that everyone can create something beautiful when given the tools and encouragement to do so. I offer structured, personalized plans that change as your interests evolve, and I support your growth through regular feedback, recordings, and project tracking. The ultimate goal isn’t just playing better—it’s playing with purpose.

My guitar teaching centers on building a strong technical foundation while encouraging personal musical expression. We begin with basics like posture, finger positioning, strumming, and chord changes, always tied to songs and styles that inspire you, from folk to blues to rock and pop. I integrate practical music theory so you understand chord relationships, rhythm patterns, and song structure, helping your playing feel meaningful and connected.
Communication is key—I explain concepts clearly, avoid jargon, and tailor lessons to your learning preferences using tools like diagrams, backing tracks, and rhythm exercises. Guitar should be fun and empowering, not frustrating. I motivate by sharing stories from professional guitarists and everyday learners who have grown through persistence. Alongside technique, I teach tone shaping, stage presence, practice planning, music reading, and improvisation. Whether your goals are casual or professional, I’m here to support your musical growth.
