About Jordyn
With an 11.5 GPA (out of the 12.0 point Carleton University system), and experience working for the Learning Disabilities Association of York Region (responsible for educating/advocating to students, teachers, SERT's, and administrators, in lecture, workshop, panel, newsletter, and video forms), I have a unique skillset for the job. I am not just here to earn money, I genuinely care about my students success and ENJOY teaching philosophy. Whether you are interested in Philosophy or are required to take it against your will (a Philosophical concept in its own right), I am the tutor for you.

All sessions are done through a differentiated instruction approach, meaning every lesson is tailored to the individual students needs, strengths, interests, and learning styles. The first session/meeting, the students school syllabus will be examined so that I have an understanding of where they are currently and where they will go in their studies of Philosophy outside of tutoring. The typical lesson plan will vary depending on the student, but will also depend on the branch of Philosophy being studied (Ethics and Epistemology would likely begin with a discussion of key thinkers, while Metaphysics or Logic would focus primarily on the concept and less on the Philosophical history). The most important thing I establish at the start of every session, is what the student already knows about the subject. My sessions are designed for English speaking students from grades 4-12, and those enrolled in first and second year undergraduate Philosophy courses. Exceptions can be made for a select few courses at the third year undergraduate level. I am able to teach students abstract philosophical concepts because I situate myself with them in a way that assumes they are smarter than they believe themselves to be.

Jordyn took two courses in philosophy with me —Philosophy and Popular Culture and Bioethics—at Carleton University in 2022 and did very well in both. She is personable and a clear communicator. I have no doubt that she would be a very good philosophy tutor.
Jordyn has a natural ability to make complex philosophical concepts easy to understand. She is a patient teacher and a clear communicator who’s passion for philosophy is undeniable.
Jordyn has a deep passion and understanding of philosophy, and it is apparent when she teaches. I highly recommend her, she is excellent at breaking down complex ideas in an engaging way and pays attention to those easy to miss yet crucial details that are so common in philosophy.
