About Alec
I have a CELTA certificate (Pass A) and have since spent 6 months teaching in a number of language schools and summer camps to students of all ages ranging from (11-60+). I have a good record of being well prepared and punctual for all of my lessons and all of my students. I believe that the most effective way to teach anything is to always be thinking about what any individual student needs. Therefore, I always like to learn a bit about my students before we start working together so that I can take time and care over planning my lessons to be compatible with what my students want to learn and how they learn best.

These general English lessons are great for people from non-English speaking countries who want to live in, travel through and work in places where English is spoken. I teach my lessons in English but always at the appropriate level of the learner. General lesson focuses include speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary. I aim to help learners improve their fluency by including lots of opportunities to speak in the context of everyday topics. It is important to know how to order food in restaurants, ask for directions and find the things you want in the shop but I am also very passionate about helping learners like you to express what you think and feel about the world so that people from all over can get to know who you really are! As your teacher, I will always adapt my lessons so that they are useful to YOU by focusing on certain topics that interest you and by giving you very specific feedback on how you speak. Here is an example of what a typical lesson might look like: Level: Upper-Intermediate (B2) Lesson Focus: Speaking Topic: Inspiring People Stages: Lead-in: Introduce the topic of inspiring people. Listening Stage: Listen to a conversation between two people about people who inspire them. This stage will give an opportunity to practise comprehension, learn new language and also set a model for how you can talk about people who inspire you later in the lesson. Controlled Speaking Practice: This stage will include short exercises that allow you to practise new language. Speaking preparation: Think about the people who inspire you and write down some notes to help you when we talk about them next. Speaking exercise: Using your notes, talk about the people who inspire you. Feedback/Error Correction: Here, I will help you make corrections to any grammar, vocabulary, or pronunciation mistakes you made during our conversation.
