About Melissa
Originally from Buffalo, New York, I have always dreamed of being in the education field. That dream became a reality when I began teaching 22 years ago. It has been through my own challenges and triumphs encountered in the academic realm while receiving my education, that I have a keen perception of how confidence shapes a student's experience. Being able to guide students in identifying limiting beliefs while addressing the roots and enriching a student's understanding of academic concepts has become essential in my journey as an educator. When a student understands how they learn best, has tools and strategies for application across a variety of contexts, and is willing to take chances throughout their academic experience, gains become not only possible but probable.

I have over 20 years of educational experience. I obtained an undergraduate degree in elementary and special education with a focus in math. I have a master's in literacy instruction. Additionally, I received my Orton-Gillingham certification. Across the East Coast, I have worked as a General and Special Education teacher. As a Special Education teacher, I mentored other educators, led leadership teams, and coordinated staff development workshops. I have also tutored students in 6th through 12th grade in a private learning center and through in-home environments. My educational methods focus on praise and positive reinforcement. My teaching approach incorporates hands-on learning methods that foster a strong understanding of academic content while building confidence.
