About Laine

Hi, I'm Laine, I am an English teacher from London.

I have a Level 5 certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, with additional specialisation in teaching Business English. Additionally, I have a first-class bachelor’s degree in law and 4 years’ of experience working in the London Financial sector. Because of this, my academic and business English are both very well refined.

I have a passion for languages and linguistics, and I have helped many students improve their fluency, vocabulary and grammar to help them assimilate to life in the UK. From my 5 years of teaching English, and as a language learner myself, I understand that the challenges and obstacles for everyone are different. My passion is helping you identify these obstacles and overcome them with the right materials and consistent support in order to achieve your own personal goals. With a little help, you can make learning feel less like a chore and more like consistent progress.

I have worked with students from a range of backgrounds and ages to improve their confidence, fluency and accuracy in English in a remarkably short amount of time. This has helped advance their studies, careers and moves into new English-speaking countries and environments.

About the lesson

My teaching style focuses on your goals. Whatever you want to achieve and whatever you are interested in, I will produce learning material around those topics. This is where I will really make the lessons tailored to you. Additionally, if you are studying for an exam (such as IELTS or TESOL) or want to focus on business or academic English, then we will use real materials from your exam papers, workplace or studies. You will be surprised how effectively my approach will speed up your learning.

My specialties are in business and academic (particularly legal) English. I can help you gain that extra edge that could unlock the next step in your career, bump you up a grade, or even get you into a university. I focus on whatever it is that you feel you need to improve, whether that be interview preparations and job applications, communication, presentation, phone calls, emails or anything else. I have done it, I have taught it, and you can do it too.

Finally, I have taught many students how to improve their IELTS scores, sometimes by up to three of four bands. Depending on your needs and targets, I can design lessons focussed on helping you get the IELTS score you need.

Lessons tend to be roughly 50 mins long as this is the ideal length of time for absorbing information. However, I am happy to do longer or short lessons depending on my students learning style.
