About Miranda

I'm a working English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher at a local high school. I'm licensed to teach ESL in NC public school, and have 2 years of experience working in an ESL capacity in the NC school system. Additionally, I have another year of experience collected from myriad part-time ESL tutoring and teaching opportunities from around the world (France, The Gambia, South Korea, etc.). I also have 9 years of experience tutoring music students.

I graduated from NC State in 2023 with a major in Economics, and minors in both French and Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). I'm proficient in French, and have enough capability with Spanish to explain basic concepts using translation tools.

About the lesson

I will spend the first free lesson assessing your skill level and your goals or your student's information from their school. This is where I will create a personalized study plan based on your needs, goals, and preferred learning styles. I'll be creating extra materials for "homework" based on your preferred time commitments after this initial meeting as well. My teaching philosophy is the more personalized your learning is the better.

With permission for school-aged students, I will establish contact with their school ESL teacher to collaborate on what materials are being used and studied. As an ESL teacher, I'm very familiar with helping my student's home tutors work on material with me, and I have contacts in Wake County who are helpful on that front as well.

In person lessons with me will be focused on speaking and listening, and I'll be passing off reading and writing materials in this lesson as well, which we can discuss at future lessons. I believe "the student that talks the most, learns the most", and that's especially true when learning language. You read and write before our lesson, and we discuss that material during our lesson, so that we can make the best use of your time.
