About Matthew
I hold a Master’s degree in History and have had a deep passion for history since childhood. That longstanding interest shaped my academic path and professional career and continues to guide how I teach and tutor students today. I bring a depth of experience that extends beyond the classroom.
In addition to teaching multiple AP courses, I have worked as a museum director, educator, and ranger with the National Park Service. These roles strengthened my ability to present complex historical material to diverse audiences in clear, engaging, and accessible ways while maintaining accuracy and rigor.
I am also a published historian with over eighteen professional works in peer-reviewed academic journals. This scholarly background informs my approach to AP instruction, particularly in historical analysis, evidence use, and academic writing. I help students move beyond memorization and develop the skills AP readers actually reward, including defensible arguments, precise evidence selection, and clear historical reasoning.
As a classroom teacher, my students consistently earn strong results, averaging a 4.5 on AP exams across subjects. In tutoring sessions, I focus on rubric-aligned strategies that break down how points are earned on DBQs, LEQs, and FRQs so students understand exactly what graders expect. Whether a student is aiming to raise a score, refine writing skills, or gain confidence before exam day, my goal is to provide structured and targeted support that leads to measurable improvement.

I am a certified AP social studies teacher currently teaching AP U.S. History, AP World: Modern, AP European History, AP Government & Politics, and AP African American Studies. My students consistently perform at a high level, across all exams, my students average a 4.5 AP score, well above the national average.
I specialize in AP exam preparation and writing mastery, including DBQs, LEQs, FRQs, thesis development, evidence selection, and historical reasoning. My approach is structured, targeted, and aligned directly to College Board rubrics, so students know exactly how points are earned and how to earn them consistently.
