About Mary
I am a recently retired High School mathematics teacher with 16 years experience. This was my second vocation as I had previously worked for a well known Investment Bank prior to 2000. I am currently tutoring two local high school students with great success.

Since Math is not typically a favorite subject I do stress the importance of the subject as it does relate to daily life. For example the Covid-19 infection rate is a representation of an Exponential Function which is introduced in Algebra and revisited in Calculus.
For most students success relies on keeping current on lessons, tasks & homework. I have taught boys for many years and always asked in the beginning of the year if any of them played sports. Then I would ask how do you get better at the particular sport & the typical response was practice. I would follow with you learn best by doing not by watching someone else doing! I also convey that everyone has different strengths academically but most can become proficient in Math with a solid work ethic.
