About Katina

I began my journey as a TEFL-Certified ESL Instructor and (soon after) TOEFL Test Prep Curriculum and Instructional Specialist and Tutor, immediately upon early retirement from 15 successful years as a Master Special Educator. In my reflective practice as a Certified, K-12, Masters-Level, Special Education Teacher, spanning several Public, Private, Tuition-Based and Therapeutic Day School settings, I had acquired a wealth of expertise, aptitudes and specialized skill sets which were (and are) still in perpetual high demand. Hence, I maintained an active teaching license and continued cultivating my curriculum and instructional skills for post-retirement volunteer service as an ESL Instructor at my alma mater, the College of William & Mary.

About the lesson

In the past, I have endeavored to open my profile statement with a line that draws instant appeal. The topic sentence may read as such: "I teach English to Empower Others!" - or - "English Empowers". However, the truth is that English as a language possesses no inherent power, whatsoever. All languages are unique and incomparable forms of communication. It is prejudicial to advance the English language above any other form of linguistic expression. Though it is true that English can help people from different countries, ethnicities, and races communicate with each other. Its global advantage is only a matter of historical coincidence, which has elevated the English language to a status of high impact in the sectors of business, commerce and education. The global advantage that English enjoys could very well have been afforded to any other native tongue. In which case, I could also be addressing this platform from the other side as a "Learner" seeking tutelage in YOUR language. So, let's set aside the undeserved power dynamics, which elevates English to its current status. YOU and I have the power to connect via this learning platform and the service I am delighted to offer to you. The fact that you are still reading this profile statement and seeking ways to harness YOUR power by learning and enhancing your knowledge of the English language already makes YOU my hero with a capital "H"! My lessons are not mine, but YOURS! This is because I treat every Learner as a unique individual who deserves a customized learning experience. Learning anything takes courage! As an educator and perpetual learner, I respect this fact and can guarantee that when you log on the learning space I have created for YOU, that you will feel right at home! I am looking forward to walking this journey with you, stumbling along the way and getting right back up to each new lesson where YOUR ultimate goal is always in sight.
