About Sehaj

I have completed my graduation in Mechanical Engineering. I have scored 750 on GMAT and always got straight A’s in science and maths in primary & secondary schooling. Since childhood, I was very fond of teaching. I used to teach many of my siblings, friends, and classmates. Those moments made me realise that teaching is not just about having great knowledge, it’s like the art of transferring knowledge from one brain to another.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

Teaching has been my forte since childhood. I used to teach all my siblings, friends, classmates, and sometimes even my seniors too. The best part - everyone loved my teaching style.
During my college years, I started private tutoring.
Following my graduation, I have devoted my entire career to teaching. I have been a professional Math and Science teacher for the last 10 years. I have taught over a thousand students across different parts of the globe.
As the years progressed, my interest in teaching heightened and I realized how much I cherish interacting with students and helping them learn new topics. My satisfaction when I clear the doubts of my students is unparalleled and I try to deliver my best to each one of my students.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, and the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I was in love with Maths and Science. Now, I teach Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry to students who are in elementary school, middle school, high school, and graduation. Whether a student is looking to prepare for his upcoming assessment or preparing for any exam including his SATs, I am willing to help him out.
Within a few lessons, students are simply amazed to see that they can solve all their problems themselves.
I am not as good in subjects that don't have a very straight logic and require a lot of learning like History, Biology.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Mathematician R Ramanujan once said, "An equation means nothing to me until it expresses a thought of God." I am a firm believer that understanding and logic are everywhere around us. You need the very same laws of motion to predict, how a seesaw swings or how to land a rocket on the surface of the moon.
I have been a lifelong admirer of Ramanujan. He found beauty in mathematical equations.
Logical thinking has helped me in all aspects of my life.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

In my perspective, teaching is not about having great knowledge, it's like the art of transferring knowledge from one brain to another.
Every student would prefer a tutor who explains better over a tutor who knows better but can't explain well. It's all about being able to make complex topics easier.
Understanding the needs of a student is the most crucial factor.
The purpose of teaching is to guide a student only, a teacher must develop a deep understanding in the minds of their students so they can solve all their problems by themselves.
A tutor who can understand the needs of the students before then explaining is extremely valuable and I try to reach there
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

As a teacher, we meet a lot of people daily. There are a lot of anecdotes we have in our everyday lives and we use them a lot in teaching as well. One of the difficult situations we face is when a student's morale is down and he doesn't feel confident enough. So I tell this short story to every such student: "During the ancient time there was a great war going on, two brothers were fighting for the throne. Before the war started, the evil prince went to his teacher, asking him how much potential his side has. The teacher said, "o, my price, you have so much potential that if you realize it you can win this war on your own in less than 14 days." The prince became happy. Then the teacher said, "your best friend who is fighting in this war with you, has so much potential that if he realizes he can destroy the opposing army in less than a day." The prince got very happy. Just when he was about to leave, his teacher told him the last line. "My prince also remember, the brother you are fighting with, he also has so much potential that if realizes it, he can destroy your entire army in less than a blink of an eye". Here the story is not about the war, it is about the huge potential that each one has inside them. I realize that every student I have ever taught has so much potential that if they live up to it, they can do wonders for all this planet.
It's about realizing your potential and making the best use of it
As a tutor, I always strive to make my students aware of their potential and help them realize it.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

I started tutoring at a very early age. In my opinion, teaching is the best way to clear your concepts. The more I taught, the more grasp I gained on that topic.
It's true that sometimes teachers also face difficulties in their subjects. They not only need to make sure they are comfortable in understanding a whole range of topics but also need to constantly upgrade their knowledge to higher branches of their subjects. I feel it is very crucial for a teacher to constantly strive to upgrade their knowledge as well.
Sometimes, I also face difficulties as such. But, I spend a lot of time constantly updating my knowledge.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I think teaching is just a way to interact, it's not only about expressing what you know. It's about understanding the problems of the students and then interacting with them in a way that they can understand what they need to know. Doing effective communication and helping others has always been my passion, and that is what is teaching for me in simple words.
I love the satisfaction I get when I can help my students solve a complex equation themselves or explain a lumpsum topic in simple words to them.
To be honest, the soul purpose or drive with which I teach is to get that satisfaction on those troubled faces which I cherish the most.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P) ?

I make sure that my students understand all their concepts by heart. I have the experience of teaching hundreds of students around the globe. And I take pride in the fact that a lot of students have complimented me for being the best tutor who has ever tutored them.
If I can help a student in desperate need, I feel fortunate and satisfied. My students can better answer what makes me a Superprof.
All I can say is that I worship my work.
