About Paula
I enjoy teaching reading. I was a bookworm growing up. When I started teaching, I realized that some students did not like to read or didn’t know how to read. I worked really hard to learn everything I could about the art of teaching reading. I attended graduate school at night and during the summer to learn more about teaching reading. I worked in the university Reading Lab teaching elementary students. I received my Masters degree in Reading and my certification as a Reading Specialist. The skills for reading include listening, speaking, reading and writing. Every student is different, it is up to the teacher to determine the best way to proceed.

I use a diagnostic and prescriptive approach to determine skills that need to be taught. I feel that students don’t need to be taught something they already know. My instruction is geared to provide each student with the learning outcomes they need to become successful. Students leave my class feeling happy and encouraged, every day. I have taught for many years and I love to see the glimmer in a student’s eyes when, “they get it.”
One to one instruction is the fastest way to help a student move from being behind in class to being on grade level.
