About Julian

I truly enjoy teaching Spanish. There is no greater joy than when a student says a new word or the light bulb moment when their eyes light up as they understand.
Growing up, I had a phenomenal Spanish teacher who believed in me and helped me push myself to learn the language. He made Spanish fun for me and showed me it's okay to make mistakes.
I want to be that tutor for you. I want to challenge you to take risks, to push yourself to learn. I want to make learning comfortable for you by putting all of my passion for Spanish into our sessions together. Becoming fluent in Spanish changed my life, it can change yours too!

About the lesson

What sets me apart is I know how difficult and nerve-wracking it can be to learn Spanish, and I take that into my approach to make learning Spanish a fun, easy process!

My topics include:
- Conversational Spanish: having conversations in Spanish to improve spoken fluency
- Reading and writing in Spanish: learn the skills to be able to read text messages, documents, signs, and books in Spanish; learn how to write in Spanish using proper punctuation, spelling, and accentuation for whatever your needs may be
- Real world applications: learning necessary vocabulary to be able to do things in the real world such as travel to a Spanish-speaking country, order at a Hispanic restaurant, engage in conversation with a native speaker, pass a Spanish class, go shopping at a Hispanic grocery store, and much more!

My lessons are for:
- Everyone! I have taught students as young as 5 years old in kindergarten and as old as 40 in college classes! I use visuals, gestures, and cognates (words that look like English) to make Spanish easy and understandable for all! I adapt my teaching styles and materials to adapt and accommodate age, learning styles, learning needs, and much more!
- Native Spanish speakers: If you are a native Spanish speaker and you need assistance with learning how to read and or write in Spanish, I provide that service as well | Si eres un hispanohablante y necesitas ayuda con aprender cómo leer o escribir el español, yo también proveo eso servicio.
If you are a Native spanish speaker that does not speak and or understand English, I can help you as well with services such as: translation (documents, texts, books, schoolwork), interpretation (come with you to places such as the grocery store or doctor's office or whatever situation you need someone to interpret for you) | Si eres un hispanohablante que no habla el inglés o no entiende el inglés, yo te puedo ayudar también con servicios tal como: la traducción (documentos, textos, libros, tarea), la interpretación (venir contigo a lugares tal como el supermercado o oficina del doctor o cualquiera situación en cual necesitas un traductor)

A typical lesson would look like:
- Begin the session with some basic conversation (How are you, what are you doing today, how is the weather, etc.)
- Review of previously learned vocabulary
- Introduce new material such as grammar or vocabulary
- Guided practice: we will practice the new vocabulary in all 4 domains (listening/reading/writing/speaking)
- Wrap up/summary/review

Julian has been tutoring me and my family on a weekly basis for over 5 years now. Julian started out teaching our daughter Maria first. We had hired him because, unfortunately, Maria's school does not offer Spanish and we want her to be bilingual. We were a bit nervous because Maria has very specific learning needs and it had not worked out with a couple different tutors already. Julian was so patient and adapted his materials and his teaching style to fit Maria's needs. Once we saw how great of a job he did, my husband and I signed up for lessons too, and now Spanish is a household language! If you're having doubts about getting a tutor, you'll see the progress with him only after a couple of sessions.

Hi my name is Sasha. Julian is such an amazing tutor. I was taking Spanish 101 and Spanish 102 in my undergrad for nursing and I had such a stressful course load with my major nursing classes. Julian went out of his way to make time to accommodate my crazy schedule. I really struggled learning another language and he was so patient with me. He really took care with making sure I pronounced the words right and used the correct verb endings. Because of him, I had a blast when I went to Puerto Rico last summer! 10/10 would recommend him.
