About Emily
With more than 20 years of experience in the classroom and private tutoring, I have developed a keen understanding of how to encourage and motivate students of all ages and abilities toward true academic success and self-confidence. Before being selected to the first group of New York City Teaching Fellows, I had success as a freelance writer and television production coordinator, a career which taught me the power of clear communication, creativity, and storytelling, skills I draw to make my lessons engaging and relevant. Whether supporting a struggling reader, sharpening critical thinking, or cultivating curiosity, I tailor my approach to each child’s strengths and needs. My goal is to inspire students to discover the joy of learning. And feel good doing so.

As an experienced classroom and private tutor, I provide
specialized academic assistance, concentrating in literacy, study skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving techniques for students of all grades and learning styles.
When working with young reluctant readers, I guide individualized instruction; support with phonics, letter recognition, and vocabulary; and assist with strategies and techniques to recognize and overcome learning challenges. And I make it fun!
For Middle and High School students, I focus on clarifying concepts and strengthening understanding specific content subject matter, while fostering a supportive and patient learning environment. I also facilitate homework support and test prep. And, as with the younger students, I make it fun as well!
