About Heather

I am a certified elementary educator with 8 years of classroom teaching experience and a strong background in mathematics and early literacy instruction. I graduated from Kean University with a K–6 Teaching Certification and an additional Mathematics Certification, allowing me to support students across multiple grade levels with confidence and expertise.
Throughout my career, I have taught 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade, giving me a deep understanding of how academic skills develop over time and how to effectively meet students at their individual learning level. I specialize in mathematics instruction and provide tutoring support through 8th grade, while also offering explicit phonics instruction for younger learners who need strong foundational reading skills.
I take a structured, patient, and results-driven approach to teaching. Lessons are carefully planned, goal-oriented, and tailored to each student’s needs, while still remaining engaging and supportive. I believe in building confidence alongside academic growth, helping students feel capable, motivated, and proud of their progress.
Families can expect a professional, organized, and supportive learning environment where communication is clear, expectations are high, and every student is treated with respect. My goal is not only to help students succeed academically, but to equip them with the skills and confidence they need to become independent learners.

About the lesson

I use a student-centered, structured, and confidence-building approach that meets students exactly where they are. With 8 years of classroom experience across 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade, I understand how children learn, where misconceptions form, and how to break skills down into clear, manageable steps.
In math, I emphasize conceptual understanding before memorization, using visual models, real-world examples, and multiple strategies so students truly understand why math works—not just how to get an answer. For younger learners, I provide explicit, systematic phonics instruction focused on letter-sound relationships, blending, and decoding to build strong early reading foundations.
I adjust instruction in real time, reteaching or extending lessons based on student responses, and I consistently reinforce positive effort to build confidence and independence.
