About Matthew
I am a Chartered Engineer with 5 years of experience as a Project Engineer working for an Offshore Wind Developer. I have a BEng in Mechanical Engineering with Renewables and an MSc in Renewable Energy Engineering. I am also very passionate about helping others and have the following other voluntary roles:
- Career Mentor at the University of Aberdeen (3 years)
- University of Aberdeen Industry Advisory Board Member (1 year)
- University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University Guest Lecturer (3 years)
- STEM Ambassador (5 years)
- Emergency First Aider (Expires 2029)
- Mental Health First Aider (Expires 2028)
This combination of academic background, career experience and voluntary roles has equipped me with the knowledge and communication skills to convey very complex topics in a way that most people can understand.
I have always loved learning and teaching those around me what I have learnt. I find it incredibly rewarding to see others succeed knowing that I played a part in helping them.

If you are a parent looking for someone to help their child through their secondary school maths/science exams (up to advanced higher level), or an MSc student putting together their final project and ready to enter the world of work, I could help you get through it.
I am a Chartered Engineer with 5 years of experience as a Project Engineer working for an Offshore Wind Developer. This combination of academic background, career experience and voluntary roles has equipped me with the knowledge and communication skills to convey very complex topics in a way that most people can understand. Having taught literally thousands of primary school children about offshore wind, I have learnt how to answer even the trickiest questions!
I like to tailor my teaching methodology to you. No one learns in exactly the same way and adapting to the individual is key to a successful outcome.
I like to keep lessons informal and create an environment where you are comfortable to ask questions without judgement and are free to learn in your own way. This means that the level of support and structure required by me is dependent on what you need - I am more than happy to act as a sounding board, sit with you while you revise or prepare a lesson plan - I am here to help.
The length of each lesson is also completely up to you, I would suggest 45 minutes minimum for the first session. As a mental health first aider I always promote intuitive practices, taking breaks and being open about what is on your mind. That way stress and overwhelm is kept at bay, while information can sink in properly.
I am based in Aberdeen, so if you are local to the area then in-person lessons are possible, however, online calls are also ideal for teaching sessions these days, so don't be put off if you are from further afield.
If you are interested in anything you see above, or want to ask if I can help you with a specific issue, please feel free to get in touch and we can discuss things further.
