About Kaiyan

Scared of speaking Chinese? Looking for someone who's patient and talks to you like a friend? IT'S ME!! I am Kaikai, born and raised in China, I am now a college student here in the US from China. I love art, photography, makeup, films, traveling, nature, language learning... everything! I am trained to be a professional Chinese tutor at the college I study at. And I have 4 years of experience teaching people with all kinds of backgrounds. Because I have experience learning English as my second language, I know the most engaging and fun ways to study Chinese as an English speaker. I hold majors in Art History and Anthropology, subjects that have deepened my appreciation for the intricacies of human culture and expression. This academic background offers a unique and enriching angle to my Chinese tutoring sessions. Beyond the classroom, I am a solo traveler to 10+ countries (Nepal, Morocco, Mexico, Ecuador..). This lifestyle has not only made me more adaptable and open-minded, my experiences also enrich my teaching approach, adding layers of practicality, cultural depth, and fun!

About the lesson

Whether you're taking Chinese for school, planning a trip to China, or simply interested in Chinese culture, or for job purpose, my lessons offer a rich, immersive experience that goes beyond mere language learning. I understand that everyone has their own learning habits and methods, we also study for different purposes. From absolute beginners to advanced students, I plan each adapted to your learning style, level, and interests.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in a holistic and intercultural approach that blends language learning with cultural understanding.
With me, you're not just learning Chinese, but you're also gaining a deeper insight into its cultural context, and learning how to merge into Chinese society, which I believe is essential for true fluency.

In class we can do:

- have brief discussion on a cultural topic, often linked to art, society, economics, popular trends

- learn new vocabulary and language structures using multimedia resources, and interactive activities. study both official and unofficial expressions

- Dialogue practice, role-playing exercises, and situational language use, often relating to travel, career themes.

- A mini-lesson on a particular aspect of Chinese culture and society

- HSK preparation & Business Chinese..
