About Chelsea
Chelsea is recognized for her rich and versatile tone, as well as captivating narrative power in her playing. She is principal flute of The Revolution Winds and the ENA Ensemble. Chelsea frequently works with composers premiering and recording new music. She has appeared on several composers’ albums as a soloist and chamber musician. Chelsea frequently performs with The Philadelphia Ballet Orchestra, The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, The Black Pearl Orchestra, Symphony in C, The No Name Pops, The Capital Philharmonic, The Ocean City Pops as well as many other regional orchestras. Most recently Chelsea played the world premiere of “Tongue River Music” with the ENA Ensemble. Primarily composed by Evan Kassof– though Chelsea received a co-composing credit as several of her improvisations were written into this music.
In addition, Chelsea has toured internationally and domestically, performing as a soloist, orchestra member and chamber musician. Her performances have ranged from as close to home as the Kimmel Center and Carnegie Hall to as far as Sydney and Perth, Australia. Chelsea graduated from Temple University with her Master’s Degree where she studied with Mr. David Cramer. Since then Chelsea has had the opportunity to study in international Masterclasses with Lorna McGhee, William Bennett, and Denis Bouriakov. Additionally, Chelsea graduated from Shenandoah Conservatory in flute performance where she studied with Mr. Jonathan Snowden, one of Britain's première flute players, as well as Dr. Frances Lapp Averitt. Her previous primary teacher was Margaret Newcomb.

Hello!
With my time freelancing in Philadelphia, I have experienced the concept of teaching from a traditional understanding of music, coupled with a firsthand knowledge of where classical music seems to be headed, all while being understanding and working with each student’s strengths and learning styles. I have experienced this at all levels of learning flute and music, from the collegiate level as I’ve guest lectured and coached at every university in the Philadelphia area and from an eager beginner. I have real-world experience as a musician and know how to advise someone going down that career path, as well as a knowledge of many people’s pursuits into other related areas of study.
My teaching philosophy is rooted in a student-led approach. As far as a student wants to go in their pursuits of music, I am delighted to help them find their way there. Above all else, the act of playing music, I feel is a communicative effort. Additionally, I believe in using one’s body with the utmost possible efficiency and practiced ease. I do quite a bit of yoga in my day-to-day and feel that being aware of one’s posture and breath only helps music making and specifically flute playing as well.
I have both a master’s degree as well as equivalent professional experience, and have established a good reputation as a pedagogue and teacher in the greater Philadelphia area. I have had students audition into major institutions such as the Berklee School of Music, Temple University, and The New School. I always have a desire to work with a population of students from diverse backgrounds – truthfully the population of students I have had the privilege to work with has always been diverse, and of diverse backgrounds.
I am a performing artist and have been performing internationally and domestically for several years now. I have appeared in multiple world premieres, the music for many of which was specifically written for me. I have been a part of several album releases, in parts ranging from soloist to chamber musician, and have several projects in the works as I write this letter.
