My teaching methodology is somewhat different from university professors in general, since I look for the simplest way to explain things, and not only show formulas and use them without knowing what is behind them. I am sure that a student understands the material much better once he understands what is behind the equations and mathematical reasoning.
I like to start with a brief explanation of the subject, relating it to real life and industry, later starting with basic problems and a broader development to cover all the necessary topics. This prepares the student for any unforeseen event that may come in the exam.
It is not only about knowing how to solve problems, but about broadening your repertoire of knowledge to be able to improvise during the exam, and to solve any problem presented.
