About Athreya
I received my PhD in Chemical Engineering from one of the finest American institutions for this field - The University of Texas at Austin. I delved very deeply into carbon capture from industrial pollution sources for my PhD topic, with my domain expertise primarily being mass transfer with chemical reactions, plant design, process design, absorption and stripping, among others.
Through intense coursework in graduate level mathematics, transport phenomena, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics, I was able to complement my research with the required theoretical rigor. Overall, I have over 7 years of professional and research experience in Chemical Engineering, published several research papers in reputed journals with 193 citations, peer-reviewed several research papers for journals such as Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research and International Journal of Greenhouse Gas Control. I have also worked at many pilot plants to demonstrate novel technologies and have been involved in optimization and costing of real industrial projects.
I continue to do research with ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering Company as one of their carbon capture specialists.
I hope to influence my teaching with by drawing examples from my extensive academic and industrial experience to simplify textbook concepts for students that may otherwise be highly complex.

I have always enjoyed classes where the professor explained scientific concepts by relating them to real-world examples drawn from their own career as a scientist or engineer. This will be my approach too. I hope to simplify concepts using examples from my own research and industrial experience in separation fundamentals and heat/mass transfer. The classes will be catered primarily towards but not restricted to college level individuals.
