About Christopher
I hold a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cambridge where I focused on the development of novel experimental and simulation techniques to improve fundamental understanding of adsorption and mass transfer in heterogeneously catalysed reactions.
Upon leaving university I worked as a Data Scientist at a leading consulting firm, where I furthered my knowledge of statistical and machine learning techniques, applying them to a variety of business problems using data. I then moved on to take a position as Head of Data Science at a technology start up where I am responsible for leading a team of data scientists and machine learning engineers to build, train and deploy cutting edge machine learning models and algorithms to serve a product used by thousands of elite and avid golfers.

“If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” This quote underpins my philosophy when it comes to tutoring, both in terms of the expectations I have of myself and my students. I thoroughly enjoy the challenge of finding the best way to explain a concept to a student to address their individual learning style and I encourage them to be able to similarly explain complex subjects in simple terms. Once we are confident that they understand the fundamental concepts involved in a subject, the focus then shifts to testing the limits of that understanding through worked examples. In terms of content/subject matter, I prefer to be flexible and let my student dictate what we focus on on a day-to-day basis to make sure we can address any struggles as they come up. I am, however, more than happy to prepare specific material ahead of time if required.
