About Isabella
Subjects like math and chemistry can feel really daunting at times, especially when you're not sure how to approach a problem. In my experience, success in these subjects comes down to having the right strategy and enough practice to build confidence.
As a tutor, my goal is not only to help you understand the material, but also to teach you how to think through problems on your own. I focus on helping students develop effective problem-solving strategies and study habits that they can apply even after our sessions in other subjects.

I'm well-versed in middle, high school, and certain college math. I've taken 13 AP tests and scored a 5 on all including AP Calculus BC, AP Chemistry, AP Statistics, AP Physics C (Mechanics and E&M), AP Biology, and AP Computer Science A. I also have a 3.75 GPA at Cornell University, where I've taken General and Inorganic Chemistry, Multivariable Calculus, Probability and Statistics, Organic Chemistry, and Differential Equations.
I try to use different examples to break problems down into common patterns and step-by-step processes that can be applied to future problems. I've found that this method has been most helpful for me when learning math, chemistry, and other applied subjects where straight memorization will only take you so far.
But I'm also interested in incorporating what techniques/styles work best for you!
Whenever you need help, I just ask that you let me know what specific topics you'd like to focus on and, if possible, provide examples of what kinds of problems you're expected to know, so that I can prepare a lesson plan that's most effective for you. Depending on how comfortable you are with the subject, I might ask you to try different problems and walk me through your thought process so I can understand how you're approaching the problem and guide you through parts that feel confusing in real time, thus building toward an easy strategy you can apply with this type of problem. I feel that this method is also quite helpful for identifying what common mistakes/misinterpretations you tend toward and consciously fixing them so that you can commit the right habits to memory.
