About Lucas
With a Master of Science in Chemistry from Colorado State University and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Texas Tech, I bring a deep, practical understanding of STEM to my students. My background spans both academic research and hands-on process engineering, allowing me to connect complex textbook concepts to real-world applications.
During my time as a university Teaching Assistant, I built comprehensive study materials and review keys for complex courses like General Chemistry 1 and 2. This experience taught me exactly where students tend to hit roadblocks with quantum chemistry, reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and equilibrium—and more importantly, how to guide them past those hurdles. Whether you are a middle school student building foundational math skills or a college student tackling advanced chemistry, I adapt my teaching style to match how you learn best.

I focus on conceptual understanding rather than simple memorization. Having navigated engineering and chemistry programs, I know that completing and doing well in complex STEM classes requires a strong foundation. I teach students how to break down intimidating problems into manageable steps, build structured review habits, and connect theoretical equations to practical, real-world systems.
We review current homework or recent exams to pinpoint the exact conceptual disconnects. (Assessment)
I break down the underlying theory. I rely heavily on structured study guides and review banks—similar to the comprehensive materials I built for university-level General Chemistry courses. (concept review/focus)
We tackle complex, multi-step problems together, focusing on the mechanics and logic of the solution. (practice)
The student solves a final problem entirely on their own to guarantee they can replicate their success on a high-stakes exam. (Mock exam questions)
I bring a rare combination of advanced subject mastery and practical university teaching experience. Holding an MS in Chemistry and a BS in Chemical Engineering, I don't just know the material—I understand exactly what professors and graders are looking for. My time as a university Teaching Assistant allowed me to specialize in guiding students through notoriously difficult topics like reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and quantum chemistry, meaning I can anticipate common roadblocks before a student even hits them.
For middle school and high school I focus on looking to build solid foundations in basic math and science, or aiming to excel in advanced courses like AP Chemistry and Physics.
For College undergraduates tackling STEM prerequisites, including Chem I/II, engineering math, and upper-level physical sciences.
