About Mlimi

My name is Mlimi, and I am a Chemistry and Mathematics undergraduate at the University of Johannesburg. I am deeply passionate about learning and teaching, and I believe that every student is capable of understanding science and mathematics when it is explained clearly, patiently, and in a structured way. I approach tutoring with professionalism, respect, and commitment to each student’s progress. My goal is not only to improve marks, but also to help students develop confidence, discipline, and strong problem-solving skills. I understand that many learners struggle with anxiety or self-doubt in these subjects, and I work to create a calm, supportive environment where questions are encouraged and mistakes are seen as part of the learning process. What sets me apart is my focus on simple, logical explanations, step-by-step methods, and building a strong academic foundation. I do not rush concepts. I prioritize deep understanding over memorization, which helps my students perform better in tests, exams, and long-term studies. I also guide students in developing effective study habits and exam strategies. I am fluent in English and isiXhosa, and I am able to teach in either language or a combination of both if needed. My lessons are mainly aimed at Grades 10–12 learners and first-year university students studying Mathematics and Chemistry, whether they are struggling with the basics or aiming for higher performance. I take pride in being reliable, well-prepared, and serious about the responsibility that comes with teaching. When a student works with me, they can expect commitment, honesty, patience, and a genuine desire to see them succeed.

My approach to private tutoring is based on simplicity, structure, and confidence-building. I believe most students do not struggle because they are “bad at science” or “not good at maths,” but because the concepts were presented in a way that felt intimidating or disconnected from real understanding. I break down complex ideas into small, logical steps, connect them to familiar examples, and build a solid foundation before moving to more advanced work. What makes me unique is my ability to simplify difficult material without removing its depth, helping students truly understand rather than just memorise.

I am proficient in English and isiXhosa, and I can comfortably explain concepts in either language or mix them when needed to improve understanding.

A typical lesson with me includes a quick review of previous work, a clear explanation of the new concept, guided examples done together, and then independent practice with support. I encourage questions, thinking out loud, and active participation. I also help with study techniques, time management for tests, and developing confidence in approaching problem-solving questions.

My lessons are aimed at high school learners (Grades 10–12) and first-year university students, especially those studying Chemistry, Mathematics, or related science modules. I am particularly suited for students who feel anxious about science or who have struggled to grasp the basics, as well as those who want to strengthen their foundation and aim for higher marks.
