My educational and research experience is very interdisciplinary. I hold degrees in Chemistry (PhD, MS, & BS), Biochemistry (BS) and Microbiology (minor). I have experience teaching general chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and high school chemistry, biology and ecology. I have mentored high-school, undergraduate, and graduate students.

An outstanding teacher should not only be knowledgeable about the subject which they are teaching but be able to explain concepts in a way that engages students. Connections must be made from course concepts to preexisting knowledge and experiences to build up a frame work of interconnected ideas. If connections between concepts are not made facts and definitions become orphaned and real understanding is not made. For deep understanding, students need to reflect on the significance of the new ideas and learn to apply concepts to different situations.
An outstanding teacher also teaches good study skills, which are essential to the future success of students. Study skills may include, taking notes, reading and writing reports, reviewing and studying notes, recording observation, presenting and interpreting data and drawing conclusions.
