About Vance
I have spent twelve years educating more than 460 students in the vital field of environmental chemistry and sustainable science. My academic background includes a doctoral degree in environmental chemistry and research experience in water quality analysis and green materials development. I have worked in environmental consultancy, government laboratories, and education, giving me a comprehensive understanding of how chemistry serves environmental protection. My students have pursued careers in environmental science, chemical engineering, sustainability consulting, and environmental policy. I am particularly passionate about helping students see chemistry not as a source of pollution but as a tool for environmental solutions. I design lessons around current environmental challenges and maintain partnerships with environmental organizations that provide real-world contexts for student learning. Outside of teaching, I volunteer with environmental monitoring programs, advocate for sustainable chemistry practices, and enjoy outdoor activities that connect me to the ecosystems I study. I believe that chemistry education must prepare students to build a sustainable future, and I am committed to that mission in every lesson.

My chemistry teaching is environmentally focused and sustainability-oriented preparing students to understand and address the chemical dimensions of environmental challenges. I teach atmospheric chemistry through the study of ozone depletion climate forcing and air quality using real atmospheric data and models. Water chemistry is explored through analysis of water treatment processes pollutant detection and aquatic chemistry. Green chemistry principles are integrated throughout teaching students to evaluate chemical processes for atom economy waste reduction and energy efficiency. I emphasize the role of chemistry in developing sustainable materials renewable energy storage and pollution remediation technologies. For analytical chemistry I teach students to understand and evaluate environmental monitoring techniques including spectroscopy chromatography and electrochemical methods. My lessons incorporate extensive use of environmental case studies policy documents and current research to show students how chemistry informs environmental decision-making. For exam preparation I teach comprehensive content coverage with emphasis on the application of chemical knowledge to environmental contexts. I also guide students in developing independent research projects on environmental chemistry topics.
