About Owain
During high school I discovered that I had a real passion for science. I didn't like the way it was taught through NCEA but I learned to "play the system" and achieve highly (ironically, via online learning platforms much like this). After graduating I enrolled at Otago University and ended up getting a bachelors degree in chemistry after discovering I had a knack for organic chemistry. During my 4th year I worked as a lab demonstrator and discovered I enjoy teaching, and I am currently trying to find consistent work as a tutor.

I believe the best way to teach and to learn is through a fairly loosely structured discussion over a whiteboard. My approach is to discuss with the student where they think their weaknesses lie, identify and teach the missing theory, and then work through practice problems, past exams, etc. until the student is comfortable doing the problems alone.
The length of the lessons vary based on topic but I aim for 30-90 minute sessions. A small summary of what area we want to focus on beforehand will allow me to prepare some content and tailor my lesson for you.
I have a bachelors degree in chemistry and substantial research experience and I tutor first year chemistry students during their labs at university so I have experience teaching.
I can tutor at both NCEA and undergraduate levels.
