About Heather
Who am I?
My name is Heather and I am looking to support you on your tutoring journey in Science (or more specifically Chemistry).
What are my qualifications?
I have a solid background in Chemistry with a 1st Class Degree in Chemistry and I am a qualified Chemistry Teacher with experience in KS3-4 Science.
What is my background/career?
I am currently a Chemistry Technician at a university but had two years prior experience as a Senior Science Technician in a secondary school, so have a clear standing in the practical aspect of the course and can focus on this if required. I qualified as a Chemistry Teacher in 2023 and chose not to continue with traditional classroom teaching but remained in the education sector and tutored outside of my day-to-day job as a science technician. I enjoy seeing learners' understanding improve and their little wins along the way as their confidence builds towards their big achievements!
What is my favourite element?
Carbon! It may be a small atom but without it we would cease to exist! It forms so much of the world around us and yet every atom is so tiny... Chemistry really does seem magical!
What got me into Chemistry?
I have always had an interest in Science but Chemistry always fascinated me. The idea of such small atoms interacting blew my mind... How can they come together to become me or a tree or the universe? Even now those questions still baffle me but I love understanding more.

What is my background?
I have a solid background in Chemistry with a 1st Class Degree in Chemistry and I am a qualified Chemistry Teacher with experience in KS3-4 Science. After qualifying as a Chemistry Teacher in 2023, I chose not to continue with traditional classroom teaching but remained in the education sector.

What can you expect?
During the tutoring sessions, I will personalise the learning journey to cater to the individual needs of the learner and build a supportive relationship with them. I will use high-quality resources such as PowerPoints, revision guides, practice papers and can work through questions learners bring to the session. I would target topics that learners find tricky and use analogies/models to make concepts clearer. I am flexible and adaptable so can work towards various goals such as acquiring knowledge, application and understanding how to answer exam-style questions. I am very passionate about Science (in particular Chemistry) and aim to challenge learners to achieve their highest.
What is my format?
I would be happy to deliver sessions between 30 and 60 minutes in length and my preferred delivery of sessions is online. I am primarily looking to tutor GCSE Chemistry, but am also happy to help with KS3 Science, and can support with GCSE Physics and Biology, if time is given to prepare materials.
