About Sophia
I am a scientist at heart and love my work in chemistry, as well as the many opportunities I have had to teach. I also love working with young people, having volunteered in roles with Foróige and Jigsaw. I find tutoring to be a very rewarding role when helping students overcome challenges and learning to ask questions about the world around them. Outside the lab I enjoy hiking, reading, and learning languages. I was also a violinist for several years, having completed my RIAM Grade 7 exam with a Distinction mark back in 2021.

I have over 5 years' experience in tutoring all ages from primary school to Leaving Certificate, across a range of subjects including languages, sciences and mathematics. I have just completed my master's degree in chemistry, and achieved 602 points in my own Leaving Certificate. I have worked with students from a variety of backgrounds, with both in-person and online classes, and am adept at developing lesson plans to suit the needs of every student, rather than one-size-fits-all. I use a problem-solving approach to teach topics, ensuring that students are equipped for tests and exam questions, and understand their subject matter without just rote learning. This has helped my students achieve H1s in their subjects at Leaving Certificate level, and gain confidence in primary school subjects such as Irish, to catch up with classmates.
