About Rachel
I am a Chemistry student at Durham University studying for my Masters. I started my degree studying joint honours physics and chemistry, so I have a high level of physics understanding. I have tutored A-level chemistry before and am proud to say I boosted my student's mark by a grade. I used to teach Sunday school classes so I am used to planning lessons, and I have volunteered teaching English as a foreign language so I am able to come up with creative ways to approach a topic for students who are struggling.

I base a lot of my teaching around doing examples to increase a students confidence. Physical sciences require students to understand content and be able to apply it logically. By guiding students through problems they will develop a methodical approach, which will guide them when attempting an unknown exercise. If a student is struggling with a particular area, it will form the warm up exercise at the beginning of each session until they have mastered it. This can seem very laborious and repetitive, but it works!
I also like to use analogies and memory tricks for learning. Physics in particular requires students to memorise a lot of concepts before they can apply them, so having easy methods to do this is very helpful.
Finally I am an extremely visual and methodical learner myself, so I encourage students to think of efficient ways to present information in their notes to make learning it even easier.

Rachel is a wonderful chemistry tutor. She supported my son at A level and this support made a big difference to his grade. Rachel was so positive with him, so focussed, well organised and knowledgeable yet always very approachable. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
