About Malik
I am currently working as a research engineer for MIT as well as pursuing my BS degree in chemistry with minors in physics and mathematics. I am experienced as both a tutor and mentor. Fun facts about me are that I was a classical musician for over 10 years and I am originally from North Carolina.
Before becoming an engineer I severed as a mentor and tutor for students ranging from middle school to college levels and a foundering member of a Boston based educational non-profit. While tutoring my primary subjects were mathematics up to Calculus III, Chemistry (College and High School Levels), and Physics (Primarily Mechanics). I also assisted students on the middle and high school levels in writing and reading comprehension.

1.) GET TO KNOW WHO YOU'RE WORKING WITH: Before developing any lesson plans, I aim to understand why a student may not feel comfortable in a particular subject. Each student has different ways of learning and I have different ways of teaching and interacting. I use this to create as learning environment that is as comfortable as possible.
2.) PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT: I am a big advocate of practice with a gradual increase problem intensity and decrease in assistance based on each student's learning characteristics.
3.) NO ONE IS PERFECT: I make all of my sessions a learning experience for both of us because I believe I can learn just as much from a student as they can learn from me. I do this to show my students that it is OK to not understand and that no matter where you in life we'll always be learning. This instills confidence in students to tackle new problems independently, understand their weak points, and make tutoring a growing experience.
