About Lucas

Hi, I'm Lucas, from Argentina. I hold a gold medal from my national chemistry olympiad (OAQ) and a bronze medal at the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), so chemistry isn't just something I studied, it's something I've competed in at the highest level.

I'm based in Argentina (GMT-3) and teach students across time zones, happy to find a schedule that works for you!

About the lesson

I use a diagnostic-first approach: before jumping into new material, I make sure I understand exactly where a student stands; what they already know, where the gaps are, and what's tripping them up. From there, I build lessons around concrete problem-solving rather than passive explanation. I break down complex topics (like equilibrium or coordination chemistry) into smaller, connected pieces, using analogies and visual reasoning where it helps, and I always tie theory back to the kind of problems that actually show up on exams.

A typical lesson starts with a quick review of what we covered last time and any questions that came up while practicing. Then we move into the main topic for the day, I explain the concept, work through an example together, and then the student tackles a similar problem on their own while I guide them through it. We close with a short recap and I assign a few targeted practice problems for before the next lesson, so progress compounds session over session.

I'm a national chemistry olympiad gold medalist and a bronze medalist at the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), so I've been on the other side of high-pressure exams and understand what it actually takes to master the material, not just pass a test. I teach in both English and Spanish, and beyond chemistry, my background in programming and data analysis lets me bring a more structured, logical way of thinking about problem-solving into lessons.

My lessons are aimed at high school and early college students preparing for AP Chemistry, IB Chemistry, or A-Level Chemistry, as well as students who need general chemistry support, whether that's catching up on fundamentals, preparing for a specific exam, or building confidence in problem-solving. I work with students at different levels, from those just starting to struggle with the basics to those aiming for top scores.
