  • 1) When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?

I started playing chess a couple years ago as a way to pass the time but slowly it became a large passion of mine! Friends of mine introduced me to the game and as time went on I got better and better with the support of friends, books, people, and internet resources that helped me to get where I am now! (This is a picture of me winning 1st place at a large Statewide Tournament in NM called the AIMS Open!)
  • 2) Which artists or works affect you the most?

Artists that affect me the most are players that really revolutionized the chess world! Games from Bobby Fisher, Magnus Carlsen, Mikhal Tall, Adolf Andersson, Paul Morphy are all players that I study and make me interested in learning from them!
  • 3) What are the qualities and skills required to succeed in this area?

Skills required to succeed in this area is a drive to never give up and an ability to be ok with failure. Realistically not everyone is the next super grandmaster and being ok with plateaus and working through them. As someone who's been in the chess world for a while, months and months of plateaus are something that I have worked through and eventually gotten me to new heights in the chess world. (This is a picture of me at a casual tournament winning 2 trophies in different divisions Bughouse and Classical Respectively. This success required a lot of work into new depths as well as not giving up even while the competition was very daunting!)
  • 4) What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

To stay focused on creative projects, love what you do and remember why you do it! For me with chess it's never really work to study or read theory but doing something I love so it never feels out of my way. You have to do whatever it is you do like you love it and learn to do so! As well as remembering why you do it! Whether that be a goal that you have or the goals you want to achieve keeping those in your head 24/7 helps you continue that drive to keep doing what you need to do! (This is a picture of the final round of my first ever USCF Tournament! This last round was particularly hard for me since I felt incredibly sick and wanted to quit, however I managed to win a very convincing game in order to win the tournament!)
  • 5) How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?

My passion for chess has become second nature to me. Where chess is something I love to do and can always ask questions and always thinking about what I need to do to improve and the next opportunity to use my skills whether that be tournaments, coaching, or playing! (This is a picture of me winning a tournament at AIMS of New Mexico! AIMS is the leading club of top chess players in the state of New Mexico and winning this tournament undefeated helped me learn a lot from the other players! This was an opportunity I quickly jumped on to compete simply because I had a lot of confidence in my skills in this tournament and also to coach you!)
  • 6) What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?

Some creative achievements of mine that I'm proud of are learning languages, and learning how to play instruments! I love doing both and a large achievement when things start clicking and making more sense!
  • 7) Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

Yes! One student in particular continues to show incredibly fast progression and keeps me on my toes! He's very hungry to learn and incredibly kind and curious which makes it a pleasure to teach and makes me hopeful for their progression!
  • 8) Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?

Just keep on keeping on! Find what works for you and don't lose enthusiasm if it doesn't work out immediately because one never knows how things will work out if you don't try! Waiting and keep trying is important!
