About Sachen

Chess has been a huge part of my life, shaping the way I think and approach challenges. I started my journey as a junior player and was fortunate to represent South Africa at the junior level, competing against some of the best young talents. Over the years, I have won multiple SAJCC titles, earning board prizes along the way, and later became a USSA Chess Champion.

My biggest passion in chess is opening theory. I believe that mastering the early game lays the foundation for long-term improvement, and my coaching focuses on giving players a deep understanding of openings—not just memorizing moves, but truly grasping the ideas behind them. Beyond my own play, I have experience coaching students at UCT Chess and in high schools, helping them refine their skills and approach the game with a strategic mindset. Currently, my Chess.com ratings are 2200+ Blitz, 2200+ Rapid, and 2000+ Bullet, with my peak ratings reaching approximately 100 points higher across each category.

Outside of chess, I have a strong background in software engineering and cloud computing. With a degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering, I specialize in full-stack development, embedded systems, and cloud architecture. The problem-solving mindset from chess has translated seamlessly into my work in tech, where I analyze complex systems and develop efficient solutions.

I also take my physical fitness seriously, believing that mental and physical performance go hand in hand. I train regularly, play sports, and push myself to maintain discipline in all areas of life. Whether in chess, engineering, or fitness, I am always striving for improvement and helping others do the same.
