About Harper
I have been passionate about chess since childhood, fascinated by its combination of logic, strategy, and creativity. I earned a B.A in Game Theory and have taught chess for 7 years, helping learners of all ages develop tactical and strategic skills. My teaching emphasises structured guidance, patience, and individualised support. I design lessons tailored to each student’s level and learning style, using exercises, game analysis, and practical application. I create a supportive environment where students can experiment, learn from mistakes, and build confidence. Lessons balance skill-building with enjoyment and intellectual stimulation. Outside teaching, I participate in tournaments, study chess literature, and analyse professional games to remain current. Sharing real-world insights in lessons allows students to connect theory to practice. Witnessing learners gain confidence, strategic insight, and love for the game is deeply rewarding.

Chess lessons are most effective when students integrate tactical skill with strategic thinking. I focus on openings, endgames, tactical combinations, positional evaluation, calculation, and decision-making under pressure. Lessons are interactive and structured to enhance reasoning skills while keeping students motivated. Beginners focus on understanding the rules, piece movement, basic tactics, and fundamental strategies to build a solid foundation. Intermediate learners refine tactical combinations, positional play, endgame knowledge, and practical game analysis. Advanced students concentrate on deep strategy, complex endgames, time management, and tournament preparation. Each lesson includes exercises, guided analysis, and practical applications. Studying chess develops focus, patience, problem-solving, and analytical thinking. Students gain confidence as they learn to plan ahead, anticipate opponents’ moves, and solve complex challenges. My goal is to make chess both enjoyable and intellectually stimulating, fostering lifelong strategic thinking skills.
