About the lesson
For younger kids--~30-45 min of chess with a focus on how they are thinking and the "why" behind their moves (first having one at all, then improving it from there) + ~15-30 min just general play/conversation driven by their curiosity. The goal is for them to have fun and focus as long as they can, building over time.
For aspiring competitive players--mix of playing and reviewing games to learn from errors, tactical and theoretical exercises, broader strategic concepts.
The ideal setup:
You've got 1-2 intellectually curious kids and would love to have someone entertain them for 1-3 hours in a positive and stimulating way. Chess lessons are only 1 hour, but happy to extend into academic topics and other intellectual games for a longer time period.

I'm a former competitive chess player (National Master, Canadian Youth Champion), Harvard graduate, and tech alum.
I'm taking time off of my career to better connect with my community and explore alternative options, especially in youth education.
Love working with kids, passionate about developing the next generation of confident and curious leaders. Big believer in learning as a student-led, fun, collaborative process.
Perfect! Sebastian was very focused on building relationship with my son instead of forcing him to play chess. Meanwhile, he was also patient at slowly introducing him to the fun of the game without intimidating him. We really like his playful and patient approach.
