About Kian

I have 10 years of experience tutoring Chess to students of all ages, including school children, college students, and working professionals. My teaching philosophy is centred on making chess both enjoyable and educational. I believe that chess is not just a game but a powerful tool to develop critical thinking, patience, and problem-solving skills that help in many areas of life. I focus on creating personalised lessons that match each student’s level and learning style. Whether a student is new to chess or preparing for competitions, I guide them step-by-step to build confidence and improve their skills. I emphasise understanding key concepts like openings, tactics, and endgames, and I encourage students to think creatively and strategically during play. Over the years, I have helped many students achieve significant milestones, including winning local tournaments and improving their ratings substantially. I take pride in supporting each learner’s growth and watching them enjoy the game more with every lesson. My approach combines patience, clear explanations, and practice to make learning effective and fun. I am committed to helping students reach their full potential and develop a lifelong love for chess.

About the lesson

My teaching methodology centres on flexibility, clear communication, problem-solving, and integrity, which I believe are essential for learning chess effectively. I understand that every student is unique, so I adapt my lessons to fit individual learning styles and paces. This flexibility helps students feel comfortable and engaged, whether they are beginners or more advanced players. Communication is key in my teaching. I explain concepts in simple, clear language and encourage students to ask questions and share their thoughts. This two-way communication helps me understand their challenges and tailor my guidance accordingly. Problem-solving is at the heart of chess, so I focus on developing my students’ critical thinking skills. I use puzzles, real-game scenarios, and strategic exercises to help them learn how to analyse positions and make thoughtful moves. This approach builds their confidence and independence over time. Integrity is important both on and off the board. I teach students the value of fair play, respect for opponents, and honesty, which are vital qualities in chess and life. Besides chess, I can also teach related subjects like logic, reasoning, and strategic thinking, which complement the skills learned in chess. Overall, my goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students grow their skills, enjoy the game, and develop qualities that benefit them beyond chess.
