About Emma

Hi, I am Emma.

I come from China and have been living in New Zealand for 6 years.

One day, while I was lost in thought, a sudden idea crossed my mind: it would be wonderful to share my skills and knowledge with others. And what skill have I excelled at and accumulated since childhood? It's my native language, Chinese. That's why you can see these words right now.

I am a patient, warm person, I have a lot of volunteer experiences before.I have had the opportunity to assist international students from various countries in learning Chinese. These students come from Oceania, Africa, South America, and Asia.

Please notice,I graduated with a degree in Media and also obtained a degree in Economics. Additionally, I completed my studies in Management in New Zealand. So, I am not a graduate student specialising in Teaching Chinese for students from international. I have no professional and academic degree and certification in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. So, if you're looking for an academic and very professional teacher, I may not be the best choice. My style is more like that of a friend who accompanies you on your journey into the world of Chinese, sparking your interest in learning the language, and growing together, like grass and flower.

Chinese is an ancient language with a rich history, and it is also unique in its own way.
I believe that inspiring students' confidence is an essential part of teaching. I will guide students with an encouraging and supportive attitude, helping them believe in their ability to excel in learning Chinese.

About the lesson

—We can determine what you would like to learn before the class and set a small goal based on that.
—I have set several directions, and you can take them as reference and choose the one you are most interested in learning:

*Pinyin pronunciation learning

This goal is for you to be able to master the pronunciation of Chinese Pinyin and be able to phonetically read Chinese characters.

*Chinese song learning

If you have a favorite Chinese song or if you want to perform a Chinese song for your family or friends, we can learn the song you want to learn. I will help you correct your pronunciation, explain the meaning of the lyrics, and practice with you. However, please note that this is not a singing lesson, so I won't be able to teach you singing techniques (because my singing voice is average, haha).

*Spoken Chinese practice

This one is suitable for learners who want to practice their Chinese oral skills, just like practicing for the speaking section of the IELTS exam. I can provide you with Chinese dialogues and help correct your pronunciation. We can discuss how to improve and enhance your oral expression, including finding more suitable expressions for everyday use by Chinese people. During this process, I can also provide Chinese listening exercises to help you improve your listening skills.

* Chinese culture

This is an advanced-level lesson. If you already have a certain foundation in Chinese, and interested in Chinese culture and Chinese philosophy, this is okay for you. We know that Chinese philosophy is important in Chinese culture, so we can discuss Chinese philosophy.

*If you have a specific exam such as HSK, I can help you practice and answer your questions.
