About Yu may

Hello! I'm Yu May, an ABRSM Graded pianist with a lifelong passion for music, creativity, and teaching.

I believe music is a language that everyone can learn, regardless of age or experience. Whether you're a complete beginner, returning to the piano after many years, or preparing for ABRSM examinations, I'll tailor each lesson to suit your goals, learning style, and pace.

Beyond teaching piano, I can also introduce you to music composition and songwriting. If you've ever dreamed of creating your own music, I can guide you through writing melodies, understanding harmony, and turning your musical ideas into your very own compositions.

As a multi-instrumentalist, I also play the flute, guzheng (Chinese zither), violin, and guitar, giving me a broader understanding of music, technique, and musical expression. This allows me to share insights beyond the piano and help students develop a deeper appreciation of music as a whole.

My lessons focus on:

About the lesson

I believe everyone can learn piano with the right guidance, patience, and encouragement.

My lessons are built around understanding the student, not forcing every student to learn the same way. Everyone learns at a different pace, and my goal is to make each lesson enjoyable, confidence-building, and rewarding.

Rather than simply teaching notes, I help students understand the music, develop good technique, and build confidence step by step.

I also believe learning should be exciting. If there's a song you've always wanted to play, let's make that one of your goals. Learning music you genuinely enjoy keeps you motivated while we build the essential skills needed to become a better pianist.

There is no pressure to be perfect. Mistakes are part of learning, and every lesson is another step forward.

Whether you're 6 or 60 years old, it's never too late to start playing the piano.
