About Susan
I gear my dance classes and coaching to my needs of my students. Everyone has a unique way of moving.
My ballet training started with Balanchine but through my many coaches, I'm familiar with French technique and I also have a background in Jazz dance.
My students have included trainees at School of the American Ballet (SAB), semi-pros from Peridance, actors seeking movement ease, and kids and parents who just want to have FUN.

Susan Kirschbaum teaches "Dancing Poets" workshops at Peridance and Battery Dance in NYC that combine poetry with ballet class and choreography. When working with professional dance trainees, some of the choreography developed in class debuted in festivals in NYC and Florida in 2026.
She also gives private and semi-private lessons in ballet technique and expression.
Kirschbaum started as a trainee at The School of the Pennsylvania Ballet -- now Philadelphia Ballet. Injury detoured her from a traditional ballet track. But she returned to dance and continued her training with top ballet mentors including Karin Averty, Robert LaFosse, Elizabeth Ferrell, Fabrice Herrault, and Igal Perry, to name a few.
Susan is developing an entirely new modality that married poetry to dance that has garnered global attention in the dance world.

Details
Private lessons are $60 an hour if I am coming to someone's home. Depending on the location, I may ask for travel expense. IF there is a group of students, I will discount the individual rate according to the number confirmed. I am also available to teach in schools; studios; and performance spaces in the city.
