About Lucy
My name is Lucy and am now a 2nd year medic at Christ's College Cambridge. Having completed all 4 sciences at A Level (in which I gained 4A*s), I have a broad knowledge of all the subjects, whilst also being able to link them harmoniously.
In my opinion, what is key in learning is having a secure grip of the underlying principles of the topic. When this is the case, one is able to easily come to terms with further complexities, hence eventually gain a true mastery of the subject.
I am also aware of the best methods to learn for GCSE and A Level - having taken both sets of exams within the past few years, so able to give advice on this, as well as the transition to University, be that in terms of the step up in work or the tough application process for medicine and Oxbridge.
Another important part of my tutoring is coming to enjoy the subject. If students are able to enjoy what they are learning, they are much more likely to put the time and effort into it and therefore succeed. As I personally loved the subjects i took at A Level, and especially the medicine I am learning now, I hope this will motivate the students to feel the same, in whatever their preferred field of science.

The structure of my tutoring sessions aims to go through different topics of a subject, helping the students build up a bank of notes which are simple, yet contain the relevant information to be referred back to in revision. Application to the real world is always a wonder of students - 'why am I learning this?' - so I aim to include small points in the sessions, whether or not these are naturally found in the syllabus. Referring to the real world also gives a trigger of memory for exam situations.
Before any tutoring session I would first go over the topic, to ensure my knowledge is secure, and prepare notes which we can follow through in the session. I prepare specific topics to go over but also allow question answer style as we go along and at the end of sessions in case students are still unsure.
