About Sofia
Hello!
I am Sofia, an Italian postgraduate student at LSE, London. I offer friendly, professional and flexible Italian lessons and tutoring. Whether you need to learn from scratch, to improve your conversational skills, or to learn academic writing, I will tailor my lessons to your needs! I also offer proofreading of your writings. My lessons are not limited to language, but will also introduce you to Italian culture. My method is flexible: everybody has their own learning style!
I first approached language teaching as a private French teacher to Italian native speakers in Paris. My students had a range of different language levels and needs, and mostly learnt French for professional purposes. In a few months and with little steps, they improved their communication and grammar skills through practice, and they gained key every-day and professional language skills that allowed them to better navigate the – sometimes bewildering – experience of living in a foreign country. Although I later had to leave Paris for professional reasons, my passion for teaching languages has remained with me.
I am also an avid language learner myself, and I am fluent in English, French, and Spanish. So if you have troubles learning in English, I can teach you in any of these languages.
Respect for my students is of the utmost importance for me and my teaching is inclusive concerning background, gender identity and sexual orientation, race, origin, status, religion, mental and physical disability, and any other personal characteristic.

My teaching is open to beginners and people with an intermediate level of Italian. However, I offer proofreading and conversation practice to all levels.
My classes have a basic structure that can be adapted to the specific needs of every student. A typical one-hour class will start with a little conversation, followed by a reading and comprehension of a short text on a specific topic. Then, a few grammar rules will be studied through the content of the text. Finally, we will put in practice what we learnt through exercises and conversation. In this way, every class will also be an opportunity to learn new vocabulary about a new topic.
As you can see, all my learning is based on practice. If the student needs to focus more or exclusively on written or oral aspects of the language, or on specific topics, that can be done. While I do not have a specific professional knowledge on learning disabilities and potential needs of neurodiverse students, I will do my best to adapt my teaching methodology to any specific need of my students.
In case the student needs support with homework or simple conversation rather than classes, I am open to that, as well.
