About Mara

I have been a language learner my whole life, and I have been teaching Italian in New Zealand for about 10 years.

I teach adults at all levels and offer 1:1 classes, couples’ classes, group classes, and conversation classes.

I want you to feel that your effort translates into the ability you want to develop—whether that means speaking, reading with more confidence, improving your pronunciation, or writing.

Having lived and travelled in different parts of the world, I know how enriching it is to connect with the people, places, and culture of the country you are visiting. I am passionate about helping you reach a level of Italian that allows you to experience Italy from the inside. My goal is to help you feel comfortable communicating in Italian, whatever your level, so you can connect with people and make the most of your time there.

For me, learning and mindset go hand in hand. That is why grammar is always taught in context, so you can understand it and put it to use in real-life situations.

About the lesson

Students come to me with a desire: to speak Italian!

My approach and teaching methods are designed to help them fulfil that desire.

I want you to speak Italian from day one. That’s what we’ll do in our very first lesson. From then on, we’ll keep building your knowledge and confidence together.

I believe speaking a language takes courage—the courage to make mistakes, especially if you’re a perfectionist.

You don’t need to know everything to start communicating. You need a little Italian, a way to use it, and permission to make mistakes.

If your desire is to communicate in Italian, I’m here to help you turn the Italian you already know into sentences, questions, and conversations through regular opportunities to practise.

So that, when you’re in Italy, you can connect with people—or connect more deeply with your Italian heritage—and feel more confident along the way.
