Find out more about Alison

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I have always loved music, from the earliest memories
from my childhood. I always loved to sing and briefly tried the violin
and cello before learning piano to compliment my vocal training.
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

This really depends on my mood.
I can listen to Baroque, Medieval, Classical to Latin American or
    Folk
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

I teach students of all levels,
from the beginner to advanced and professional singers. Lessons are
structured for the individual and their goals. I like to challenge my
students, so they see and hear results and when they realise their
own progress and it inspires them to stay motivated and be further
challenged. I like to work on Italian operatic techniques for the more
advanced vocalists. Don’t be put off by this, as classical training can
be applied to and compliment any genre of music.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

The violin. I love listening to the violin, but
unfortunately it was an instrument I could not master. Maybe it was
because my parents wouldn’t allow me practice as much as I should
because of the sound coming from my room.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

    Commitment and practice.
Never compare yourself to anyone else. Embrace your individuality
and work hard to become the very best ‘you’ can be.
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Dick Van Dyke — a man of many talents. Not only a great musician,
    but also a brilliant entertainer.
Andrew Lloyd Webber, again, exceptionally gifted, whose influence
on musical theatre has inspired so many.
And Julie Andrews — a voice of pure perfection. Even though she no
longer sings, her artistry, grace, and understanding of vocal technique
would make meeting her an unforgettable experience.
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

When I was in high school, my music teacher took me aside after
choir and complimented me on my voice. She saw something in me
that I hadn’t yet recognised in myself. She even gave up several of her
lunch breaks to work with me, offering guidance and encouragement.
Her support inspired me to pursue a career in music, and it remains
one of the earliest and most meaningful reminders of the impact a
dedicated teacher can have on a young performer.
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

Many students feel nervous their first lesson. Helping them
understand I am here, not to judge, but to encourage and help
them become the very best they can be is so important. Respecting
a student’s individuality and personal goals while instilling
confidence that will not only help them in their performing arts
journey, but in all aspects of life.
