About William
I received my B.A. in Classical Civilization from the University of Michigan in 2023, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and with honors. I have studied Greek for three years and Latin for two, and have won awards for my translation work in both languages. I studied French for 10 years and received a High Pass in the university's semi-immersion program's proficiency exam, and I have experience tutoring middle school and fellow university students alike. I love what I study, and I want to share it with others by making it fun and accessible to all! I believe wholeheartedly that the study of the ancient Mediterranean is for everyone. No matter if you're a middle school student needing help with your Latin declensions, a high school student who wants some advice on their "Odyssey" final paper for English, or an adult who just wants to learn some French before a trip, I'm more than willing to help you out!

When learning languages—especially ones as difficult as Latin and Ancient Greek—it's important to have as strong a foundation as possible. So, when I teach Latin and Greek, the priority is always to ensure that the student gains a complete understanding of each grammatical concept or piece of structural vocabulary before moving on to more difficult reading. As a graduate of the University of Michigan and a former student of the Michigan Method, I strongly believe in the usefulness of core charts for teaching the syntax of ancient languages, and I have plenty of resources to share with students that will help make sense of the languages. I also like to focus on cultural elements and fun facts about historical linguistics as well so as to contextualize the work and make it more engaging for students. As for French, I firmly believe the best way to learn the language is to speak and listen to it as much as possible, so all levels will focus primarily on oral and aural proficiency while also paying some attention to reading comprehension and written competency.
Greek and Latin lessons will be offered for beginner and intermediate levels, and French for beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Classical Literature will be open to any and all interested parties, and will focus on exploring historical context and textual analysis.
