About Chris
I’m a secondary school maths teacher with 3 years’ classroom experience in UK schools, and I have also worked as a private tutor for 2 years before teaching full-time. I teach across KS3 and GCSE (Foundation and Higher), supporting mixed-ability groups, students with SEN, and learners with low confidence or exam anxiety.
I decided to tutor because I see how many capable students struggle not through lack of ability, but because they miss key foundations, feel rushed in class, or start to believe they are “not a maths person”. I enjoy taking the time to explain ideas properly, in a way that suits how each student thinks, and helping them rebuild confidence step by step.
In lessons, I create a calm and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and gradually gaining understanding. I’m patient, clear, and honest about progress, so both students and parents know exactly what is improving and what still needs work.
My aim is to help students feel more secure in lessons, more confident in exams, and more in control of their learning, rather than stressed or overwhelmed.

My lessons are calm, structured, and focused on helping students really understand what is holding them back, not just on getting through questions.
I currently teach maths in secondary classrooms and have 5+ years’ experience working with mixed-ability groups across KS3 and GCSE (Foundation and Higher), including students with SEN, low confidence, and exam anxiety. I’m used to supporting pupils who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of themselves, and helping them rebuild confidence step by step.
A typical 60-minute lesson follows a clear, supportive routine:
1) We look at where the gaps are using GCSE-style questions, so we know exactly what needs work.
2) Then I teach the concept in a simple, step-by-step way, adapting explanations to how the student thinks and learns.
3) We practise together using exam-board questions, focusing on method and common mistakes.
4) Finally, I set short, personalised homework that matches the student’s specific needs, not generic worksheets.
I teach:
• Upper Primary (KS2)
• KS3 (Years 7–9, all sets)
• GCSE Foundation (Grades 1–5)
• GCSE Higher (Grades 6–8/9)
I work particularly well with:
• Students who are aiming for a secure pass
• Higher-tier students who need exam precision
• Pupils who “understand in class but panic in tests”
• Anxious or low-confidence learners
• Students with SEN who benefit from clear structure and gentle pacing
My goal is always the same: to make maths feel manageable, to explain things in a way that finally makes sense, and to help students walk into lessons and exams feeling prepared rather than worried.
