About Auden

I picked up a needle and thread for the first time when I was 5 years old. I spent the next 10 years making really horribly constructed and awfully ugly clothing. I would not trade these years and those projects for anything. They taught me what not to do and, most importantly, WHY you shouldn't do it. It also taught me the importance of accepting mistakes and having the courage to try again and again and again.

I spent the 10 years after that learning and perfecting advanced sewing techniques, as well as starting my career as a designer. I starting teaching people to sew in costume shops of the theaters I was working at, and eventually began doing group classes for local community members. I have loved seeing my students go out into the world and sew on their own, without any of my help, and hear them talk about how much better they feel knowing they can fix their belongings with their own two hands. And it takes so much less time and effort than they thought!

Learning to sew deepens your appreciation for your clothing, mitigates waste, and saves you time & money, all of which are values I hold close to me and want to share with others.

About the lesson

Learning to sew isn't just a practical skill that saves your clothes & wallet, it's also an empowering and confidence-boosting skill that you can carry for the rest of your life.

As a self-taught seamstress, I go for a more intuitive approach to learning rather than by the book. This saves time and energy not by cutting corners, but by following the way YOU learn best.

You tell me your current skill level (never touched a needle, have followed a pattern before, etc.) and your learning goals (sew a button, make a jacket), and I will create a personalized learning plan to tell you realistically how long it will take. In one hour you can learn how fix tears in your clothes for the rest of your life.

Whether it's for general sewing skills or a specific project, I can do one-on-one or group classes, as well as single lessons or weeks-long programs. Tell me what you need and let's talk about how to make it happen :)
