About Zachary
I am a second-year PhD student in Cognitive Science at Johns Hopkins University with seven years of experience in teaching and tutoring in a plethora of subjects, including mathematics, physics, psychology, Spanish, Italian, computer science, and linguistics. As a tutor, I am committed to creating lesson plans finely adapted to each student's idiosyncratic needs and learning styles and aim to maintain an unintimidating, casual, and safe learning environment for everyone!

My teaching approach is highly flexible and adaptable to each student's idiosyncratic needs and preferences. I generally prefer a multimodal approach to my lessons; i.e., I like to deliver content not exclusively through traditional lecture-style approaches but instead through a combination of, if/when appropriate, analogy, worked examples, live demos, and other forms of media. However, if a student should prefer a particular modality for their own optimal learning, my lessons can absolutely integrate it more deeply than others, to the extent possible.
For language lessons, my teaching approach tends to include speaking practice, grammar exercises, and deep immersion in media (e.g., readings, videos) in the target language for extra practice. However, of course, seeing as each student has their own motivations for learning a language (and, thus, may have unique learning goals), this approach is flexible. For instance, a student merely wanting to be able to read in their target language need not partake in speaking exercises should they so choose!
For STEM (e.g., mathematics) lessons, my teaching approach tends to focus more on worked examples as the primary means of acquiring the relevant content. This can include working out practice problems together and/or live demonstrations of certain phenomena.
While I have more recently primarily tutored high school and college students, I am open to tutoring anyone who is eager to learn and/or increase their proficiency in any of the areas in which I tutor! I have also tutored students ranging from elementary school students to adults, so I absolutely welcome all learners here! For my mathematics lessons in particular, I tutor all high school-level mathematics, as well as introductory college-level mathematics (primarily calculus and statistics).
I look forward to working with you!
