About Jacob

Hi! My name is Jacob. I value curiosity, warmth, thoughtfulness, and a growth mindset and will apply these values directly to my teaching. I am a big picture thinker and have always found that I and many others learn best visually. I love explaining complex topics simply with analogies to create understanding and can quickly pivot on the spot if things are not understood immediately. I also believe that as much as you are the learner, I am too. I am looking to deepen my understanding of topics through the questions I ask you and the way that you come to understand them.

I am a college student at De Anza who aims to apply to a few different UC's in the coming year, including Berkeley as well as Stanford. My long-term goal is to become a professor of sociology and want to engage with you in the learning process. I have always loved math just as much as I love understanding people, and I find that math has a certain beauty to its logic and the kind of thinking it inspires.

I have often led study groups in learning math concepts and out of pure passion for ideas and understanding complex topics will often with my friends and family delve into random philosophical discourse describing ideas with the why in mind. I want to engage with you in building confidence in our ability to understand the logical principles that make up our reality.

About the lesson

If you want a curious, warm, approachable, big picture thinker who describes abstract ideas with analogies and visual aids I am your tutor. I will actively check my understanding and prep before lessons to know the details of every problem we may encounter in our sessions. I will prioritize your understanding asking you the questions to help you understand the ideas for yourself. My aim is not only to help you understand the math but to help you feel confident in your abilities as a student and enable you to take on a growth mindset in your learning.

I am a visual learner and have struggled with ADHD. I know what it is like to struggle with focusing on HW and will do my best to make the learning process as engaging and as exciting as possible. Together we can deepen our understanding of this world of math and find some beauty in it along the way!
