About Tommy

Hi there! My name is Tommy and I am a 19-year-old cellist looking to share the knowledge that I have gained for over seven years. I started the cello back in the 6th grade and fell in love ever since. For me, Cello has helped me express myself when I couldn't find words to do so. Therefore, I wanted to further learn the cello so I started private lessons in hopes of getting better at it and maybe open up a career opportunity later down the line. I didn't exactly know what qualities I should look for in a teacher so I took the first person I could find and that may have been the biggest mistake I have ever made. Yikes...

Now, you might ask yourself, "why mention that you had a bad teacher?" and I'll tell you. It's because he made something that I had once enjoyed learning miserable. I never learned anything other than the fact that I was "not good enough" or "I sucked" and over the course of three years, he conditioned me to stop practicing and to give up the cello. I was convinced that I was the problem but after switching to my current mentor, I realized that I was not the issue. I learned that because you are good at doing something, it does not mean that you are qualified to teach it.

So I took it upon myself to start teaching and see where it takes me. I've gained over 3 years of teaching experience so far by volunteering at my local middle school and helping out their ensembles grow. In retrospect, it worked out pretty well! The students seemed to enjoy the little lessons we had together and most importantly I did as well.

With all that said, I urge you to keep your standards high and your spirits higher! Do not let anyone discourage you and stop you from doing what you love or what makes you interested! I hope that I am the right choice for you and thank you!

I have over seven years of experience playing the cello and have performed at multiple weddings as well. I have studied at the reputable Colburn School of Music for four years and gained most of my knowledge there.

About the lesson

I plan to make learning the Cello a fun experience for my students. I think it's very important as a tutor or teacher to keep things lighthearted with positive energy and I take that into heavy consideration. Learning a new hobby needs to be enjoyable and fun and it's the tutor's job to be there along the way as guide rails supplementing every one of the student's needs in order to help them grow. With that said, I am more than capable of teaching all ages as beginners and as intermediates. If you decide to take lessons with me, you can expect me to share some tips and tricks, some personal experiences to provide insight, and a whole lotta fun along the way! :)
