About Alicia
I have taught ESL for the past 15 years. I was born in Toronto, Canada, but I grew up in Asia countries (Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong) and went to private English speaking schools with international students for 15 years. After I graduated from high school in Hong Kong, I returned to Canada for University. I started tutoring and teaching ESL while I was studying English Literature in University. After University, I traveled in South America (Brazil) teaching ESL. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Social Studies, and a Bachelor of Education degree in secondary teaching from UBC. I taught high school English (grades 8-12 and AP 12) in Vancouver for 5 years. During this time, I also did English tutoring and ESL teaching during the summer. For the past five years, I have taught in the English for Academic Purposes program at Alexander College in Burnaby, BC.

My classroom teaching style is student-centered. I like to present the topic or content in a fun, engaging, and collaborative environment. I model the assignment or task first, explain the expectations, and then let the student practice. Once the students are comfortable and have had enough practice, they will produce a final product using the new skill or content.
